As a Network Architect I, you will serve as a subject matter expert on diverse and challenging client engagements. You will be responsible for the analysis, design, and implementation of Cisco-based and related network technologies across enterprise and data center environments.

 

Salary: Up to $155,000 with bonus depending on experience

 

Onsite: Austin, TX

 

This role is expected to spend approximately 60–70% of time on project work (architecture, design, implementation, consulting) and 30–40% on operational support (escalations, optimizations, and lifecycle maintenance).

Responsibilities

Project / Consulting (60–70%)

· Serve as the subject matter expert for:

o Routing and Switching technologies.

· Familiarity with the following Technologies and products:

o Enterprise SD-WAN Technologies

o Multi-vendor wireless Technologies

o Load Balancing Technologies

o Multi-vendor Telephony Technologies

o Data Center networking and network security solutions

§ Software defined Data Center and Perimter Technologies

§ Multi-vendor Firewall integration into network infrastructure.

· Participate in gathering and documenting customer requirements and developing implementation plans.

· Architect and implement complex infrastructure solutions following industry and Insight best practices, using multi-vendor technologies and solutions.

· Design enterprise network and network security architectures, including:

o Core, distribution, and access layer designs

o WAN and data center network designs

o High availability and multi-layer security

· Assist the sales team by:

o Participating in client-facing sales calls and workshops

o Identifying opportunities and defining solution approaches

o Contributing to proposals, RFP responses, and statements of work (SOWs)

· Lead or contribute to network readiness assessments, including discovery, analysis, and recommendations.

· Mentor and provide technical guidance to other team members; act as a technical lead on engagements when required.

 

Operations / Support (30–40%)

· Provide Tier 3 / escalation support for complex network and network security issues.

· Troubleshoot and resolve incidents related to routing, switching, wireless, data center, and security infrastructure.

· Perform configuration changes, upgrades, and optimizations across client environments.

· Assist in operational handoff, documentation, and knowledge transfer to client or managed services teams.

· Support ongoing lifecycle management efforts, including capacity planning, performance tuning, and technology refresh initiatives.

 

Qualifications

Required

· Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline or equivalent hands-on experience in enterprise networks and data center networking.

· Current Cisco CCIE (Routing and Switching or equivalent track).

· 3–5+ years of experience architecting, designing, and implementing advanced network and/or network security solutions after achieving CCIE.

· Previous consulting or professional services experience.

· Strong ability to build relationships with clients, teammates, and technology partners.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical and abstract concepts to both technical and business audiences.

· Demonstrated ability to:

o Multi-task and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment

o Execute work in a structured, methodical manner

o Follow through and communicate effectively with stakeholders

· Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-resolution skills.

· Proven history of delivering exceptional customer service and results.

 

Technical Skills

Core Networking

· Solid understanding of network design and implementation in enterprise and e-commerce environments.

· In-depth knowledge of:

o Routing and switching concepts

o VLANs and IP addressing

o Spanning Tree, EtherChannel, and Layer 2/Layer 3 boundaries

· Strong experience with:

o OSPF, EIGRP, BGP

o HSRP/VRRP, multicast

o Policy-based routing and QoS

o VPN tunnels, WAN optimization, and traffic shaping

Network Services & Tooling

· Solid understanding of network services: TFTP, FTP, DNS, DHCP, NTP, SMTP, Syslog, etc.

· Familiarity with network scanning, analysis tools, and methodologies used for network readiness and health assessments.

Data Center & Advanced Technologies

· Experience with:

o Cisco SD-WAN

o Cisco ACI

o Cisco Nexus (NX-OS) and Catalyst data center switches

o Cisco ASR and Catalyst WAN routers

o F5 BIG-IP LTM and DNS

· Understanding of:

o IPv6, MPLS

o Load balancing and global traffic management

o Storage and collocation facility integration

o Disaster recovery (DR) networking integration

· Design and implementation of high-availability network infrastructures with multi-layer security.

Wireless & Security

· Hands-on experience with:

o Cisco wireless solutions

o Aruba wireless solutions

o Network access control and policy enforcement (e.g., Cisco ISE)

· Understanding of network security principles and their application in enterprise designs.

 

Additional Experience

· Supporting consulting services sales activities.

· Participating in and presenting during client-facing sales and discovery sessions.

· Developing scope, level of effort, and pricing for complex network solutions.

· Creating proposals, RFP responses, and SOWs with appropriate technical content and estimates.
