Business Intelligence Analyst

The Business Intelligence team use and apply modern tools and techniques to working practices in order to provide innovative and proactive solutions that support Insight’s strategic and operational planning goals, and also ensure that monitoring and reviewing processes are underpinned by robust, meaningful, and timely management information, which is aligned to the organisation’s values, mission, and success. The Business Intelligence team provides a broad range of services to support the achievement of defined objectives including value-added business intelligence to support decision making, business continuity and risk management across EMEA. In addition, the Business Intelligence team works closely with end-users to define business needs and requirements and to perform data validation which supports the identification of new clients. 


The Business Intelligence Analyst identifies business intelligence, reporting, and data analysis needs by building an understanding of the business at a level of detail that enables them to identify and address critical issues. They provide data that is accurate, congruent, and reliable, and ensure information is easily available and accessible to users for direct consumption or integration with other systems. The Business Intelligence Analyst educates and trains clients on how to use data as an analytical tool by displaying the information in new forms and content for the purpose of analysis and decision making. They work closely with clients (internal and external) to determine business requirements, priorities, define key performance indicators, and develop the business intelligence strategy. They are also held accountable for providing leadership and independent initiatives in facilitating information gathering, structuring documentation, and presenting findings. In addition, the Business Intelligence Analyst acts as the technical lead and expert in management information and reporting best practice, and also coaches teammates and offers expert advice and guidance. 





  • Provide design support for the development of business intelligence solutions. 

  • Participate in workstream planning processes including inception, technical design, development, testing, and the delivery of business intelligence solutions. 

  • Collaborate with internal and external clients and systems to develop and analyse business intelligence needs. 

  • Perform analysis for a wide range of requests using data in different formats and from various platforms. 

  • Provide input to business requirements for the design of solutions, interpret business requirements, and determine the optimum solution in order to meet needs. 

  • Lead the direction for the planning, design, and execution of user efforts, review test plans and monitor test processes. 

  • Provide input to the development of information quality metrics. 

  • Research the tools, frameworks, and mechanisms for data analytics, interface with vendors in order to keep abreast of new technologies and client applicability. 

  • Implement analysis techniques including predictive analytics, artif icial intelligence, and machine learning. 

  • Provide input to current business intelligence policies, standards and procedures for the form, structure and attributes of the business intelligence tools and systems. 

  • Train users on how to transform data into action-oriented information and how to use that information appropriately. 

  • Provide guidance, training, and problem-solving assistance to business intelligence teammates. 

  • Review current technologies, statistical methods, and analysis techniques in order to enable the business to make better informed decisions. 

  • Act as business partner to key stakeholders and proactively engage with users throughout the business to add value to decision-making processes. 

  • Present business intelligence projects to key stakeholders within the organisation including the senior leadership team. 

  • Ensure that all reporting is completed accurately in accordance with agreed timelines. 

  • Identify and understand the business intelligence needs of the organisation and provide verbal and written analysis, commentary and or visualisations, to aid decision making within the business. 

  • Provide the business intelligence input into wider projects that may involve coordination with other departments or external clients. 

  • Research, evaluate, and communicate trends and variances in operational metrics to the associated stakeholders. 

  • Work closely with internal teams within Insight to maintain data integrity and accuracy whilst continually reviewing processes which impact the integrity and accuracy of the data. 

  • Proactively develop and implement recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of data analytics. 

  • Lead cross functional and cross regional projects (including global Business Intelligence team projects). 

  • Promote the consumption of business intelligence across the EMEA organisation including the design and delivery of end-user training and training materials.

  • Educated to degree level or can demonstrate equivalent work experience 

  • Working knowledge of Transact-SQL, Microsoft SQL server 2008-16 and at least two of the following: SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, SharePoint, Power BI, and DAX 

  • High level of written and spoken English 

  • Fully conversant with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, and Word) including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel 

  • Experience of working within a high performing team within a fast-paced, target driven environment 

  • Ability to interpret and analyse business and technical reports in addition to writing and presenting information to senior stakeholders 

  • Ability to identify and implement effective systems to monitor performance 





The position is based in UK, main offices are located in Sheffield. Possibility for hybrid working, remote with occasional visits to the office and client sites.
