Data Platform Consultant

Calgary, AB, CA


The Data Platform Consultant is responsible for performing technical delivery and advisory services. The key focus will be execution of implementation, deployment, and upgrade projects, with a consultative approach aimed at promoting modern infrastructure and data estate best practices in the customer workplace. This role will be working with and supporting customers in small, medium, and large environments. The scope of work is extensive, and all candidates must have a broad range of functional and technical capabilities and specifically have proficiency with the following technologies: Data estate migration and optimization, with an emphasis on cloud technology; SQL Server platform, including both on-premises and cloud services; end-user consumption of analytics using Power BI.



  • Provide core technical project delivery services
  • Execute customer education, requirements gathering and decision guidance workshops
  • Develop IP for all service offerings - templates, best practices, operational runbooks, architecture and design documents, training/knowledge transfer packs
  • Provide pre-sales technical support and product demos/deep dives for customers
  • Engage the enthusiast community by participating in technical events and blogging
  • Contribute to the Insight brand



  • Effective learning skills, works well in a team environment
  • Demonstrated experience with presenting technical concepts to a customer audience
  • A strong background of technical experience including:
    • Data integration
    • Data platform implementation for Microsoft, Oracle, or open source products
    • Configuration, modeling, and tuning of database platforms for performance, scalability, reliability, security, and governance
    • Information architecture, analytics, reporting, and business intelligence
    • Data estate modernization, platform analysis and selection, and migration from on-prem to cloud data platforms
  • Knowledge and experience with cloud platform services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Analysis Services, Azure SQL Database, Azure Synapse, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience with ETL tools: MSBI (SSIS), BizTalk, Informatica, DataStage, SAP Data Integrator
  • Knowledge and experience with BI reporting and visualization tools: Power BI, Business Objects, Cognos, Tableau, QlikView, XLcubed, MSBI (SSAS, SSRS, Performance Point)
