Field Network Engineer

Role Overview

Location: Monday–Friday, onsite within the Phoenix area (travel required to various client sites).
Salary: $90,000–$120,000 a year DOE, plus full benefits.

 

Field Network Engineer supports the technical delivery of network modernization and refresh projects for enterprise clients. This position focuses on hands‑on implementation, onsite deployment, and technical support for network upgrades across LAN/WAN, data center, and wireless environments. Working under the guidance of senior engineers and project leads, the Engineer ensures all solutions are delivered according to client requirements and industry best practices.

 

Key Responsibilities

Technical Delivery & Implementation

  • Execute network refresh projects, including multi‑site hardware upgrades and replacements.
  • Configure and deploy network hardware such as routers, switches, analog voice gateways, and UPS devices, including staging, configuration, and testing.
  • Perform network closet audits; document existing hardware, cabling, and remediation requirements.
  • Apply established best practices for scalability, redundancy, availability, and security.
  • Support endpoint testing, update as‑built documentation, and provide day‑2 stabilization support.

 

Design & Architecture Support

  • Participate in design reviews, feasibility assessments, and solution planning.
  • Assist in developing network diagrams, low‑level designs (LLDs), and configuration templates.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in network architecture standards.

 

Advanced Troubleshooting & Optimization

  • Conduct root cause analysis and perform diagnostics on complex network issues.
  • Evaluate network performance and execute tuning using monitoring and analysis tools.
  • Support network security protocols, including firewalls, VPN configurations, and compliance standards.

 

Project & Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with senior engineers, project managers, and logistics teams to ensure timely deployment.
  • Communicate technical updates, issues, and progress to project leads and stakeholders.
  • Participate in knowledge‑sharing and training sessions to continuously develop technical skills.

 

Quality & Risk Awareness

  • Follow established change control, risk management, and quality assurance processes.
  • Ensure all work adheres to project governance and organizational standards.

 

Operational Support & Documentation

  • Assist in preparing project documentation such as closet surveys, device inventories, implementation plans, and test plans.
  • Document configurations, procedures, troubleshooting steps, and lessons learned.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet quality and accuracy standards.

 

Other Duties

  • Perform additional tasks related to network modernization and refresh as assigned.

 

Required Experience

  • 4+ years of hands‑on network engineering experience, ideally within multi‑site or network refresh project environments.

 

Certifications

  • Required: CCNA
  • Preferred: CCNP, CompTIA Network+, CWNA
  • Nice to Have: Vendor certifications (Juniper, Palo Alto, Fortinet, etc.)

 

Skills

  • Strong understanding of networking technologies and standards (TCP/IP, DHCP, BGP, OSPF).
  • Experience with Cisco Catalyst Center strongly preferred.
  • Ability to follow technical procedures and established processes.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork capabilities.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to shifting project requirements.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites within the Phoenix area.
  • Enthusiasm for ongoing learning in a fast‑paced project environment.

 

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Regular use of computers, telephones, and related office equipment.
  • Ability to sit or work in confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Regular, predictable attendance required, including periodic extended hours based on project demands.
  • Hybrid work environment; onsite presence required for deployments and client support.
