IT Services Manager - Development

Position Overview
As a Development Manager, you are responsible and accountable for all aspects of the Insight Managed Services solution development lifecycle. These aspects include but are not limited to analysis, design, coding and testing. The Development Manager ensures that timely, technically appropriate, quality solutions are provided to meet the needs of our clients. Development Managers will lead and motivate their teams as well as recruit and retain top talent.

A successful Development Manager candidate is a strong technical lead and people manager, experienced in developing his/her staff and managing priorities.  You are highly analytical, able to navigate effectively across a matrix organization, and adept at synthesizing various technologies into high quality, simple products that customers love.  You have experience through multiple complete product development cycles, possess superior analytical abilities and technical judgment.

The ideal manager candidate will have experience managing on and offshore teams, coordinating efforts based on release schedules, managing and adjusting resource capacity planning, and clear understanding of modern product deployment principles.  This opportunity requires excellent technical, problem-solving, and communication skills.  The key to success in this position is an equal passion for delivering new features and operating the current applications at the highest level of quality.


What you’ll do at Insight

  • Lead a team of developers and engineers supporting multiple business critical applications
  • Assess resource needs and plan capacity for short- and long-term projections. Continually review and revise plan according to changing demands.
  • Demonstrate positive leadership to teammates and represents oneself as a positive stakeholder in all situations.  
  • Lead the evaluation of functional/business and technical requirements and identify gaps/risks.
  • Direct and mentor teams of resources in technical delivery aspects including design and code reviews.
  • Provide requirements analysis in order to create System Design Document to include detail software architecture diagram.
  • Serves as the technical and technology expert supporting the crafting of the application architecture aspects of the solution, as well as supporting the implementation of the solution.
  • Provides validation of proposed technical architectures and solutions.
  • Work with PaaS and SaaS vendors to help deliver a solution
  • In coordination with others, monitors and analyzes production performance, while looking for ways to optimize and scale existing solutions.
  • Ensures strategies, standards, and architecture are consistent and well integrated across products.
  • Approves architecture designs with a focus on standards, performance, flexibility, scalability and security.
  • Ensure applications meet Insights security and performance standards, documentation is kept up to date, and key controls are followed on all projects.
  • Meet with teammates on a regular basis to understand project work, remove blockers, ensure an aligned vision, provide timely feedback and engage in ongoing development conversations.
  • Make recommendations about platform and technology adoption
  • Provide input into strategic planning and feature prioritization.
  • Assist project managers in setting schedules for new technology adoption
  • Keep skills up to date through ongoing self-directed training
  • Recommend senior management on improvement areas
  • Manage cost of solutions to ensure we are providing a cost effective solution
  • Help application developers to adopt new platforms through documentation, training, and mentoring
  • Engage in customer-facing activities
  • Other duties as assigned.


What you’ll need to join Insight

  • 5+ years of development management experience
  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • 5+ years of experience with Agile SDLC (including continuous integration CI / CD)
  • 5+ years of Managed Services experience preferred
  • 2+ years of ServiceNow development experience
  • 2+ years managing a geographically dispersed development team
  • 2+ years managing multiple small development teams
  • Passion for technical products, people management and developing engineers’ careers
  • Demonstrated management experience of global teams of 8+ people
  • Demonstrated ability to design scalable systems
  • Demonstrated thought leadership with a passion for translating data into action
  • Strong sense of ownership, including an ability to promote operational excellence
  • Practical experience with software engineering best practices
  • Passion for Agile software development methodologies
  • Solid grasp of QA fundamentals and process
  • Must have the ability to lead and manage a technical team delivering complex solutions required.  
  • Must possess strong analytical skills.  
  • Must be comfortable in serving as the subject matter expert in their assigned practice area. 
  • Must be a polished and disciplined communicator, both written and oral.  


Salary Range - 80,000 - 120,000
