Sr Consultant – Database – SQL Server
Location: Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Trivandrum, Pune. The role will be a hybrid position located in India.

About the role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced SQL Server Architect to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of enterprise-grade database solutions. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, and Azure SQL Managed Instance, with a strong understanding of cloud architecture, performance tuning, and data security.
Key Responsibilities:
- Database Architecture & Design: Architect scalable, secure, and high-performance database solutions using SQL Server and Azure SQL platforms.
- Design normalized and denormalized schemas based on business requirements and data modeling best practices.
- Define and implement data partitioning, indexing, and compression strategies for performance optimization.
- Cloud Migration & Modernization: Lead end-to-end migration of on-prem SQL Server databases to Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance.
- Evaluate workloads for suitability to Azure PaaS vs. IaaS and recommend optimal deployment models.
- Implement hybrid connectivity solutions using VPN, ExpressRoute, and private endpoints.
- Performance Tuning & Optimization: Analyze and optimize slow-running queries, stored procedures, and ETL processes.
- Use Query Store, Extended Events, and DMVs to monitor and troubleshoot performance issues.
- Conduct regular health checks and capacity planning for production environments.
- Security & Compliance: Implement role-based access control (RBAC), data masking, and encryption (TDE, Always Encrypted).
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, and ISO 27001.
- Conduct audits and vulnerability assessments on database environments.
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Design and implement HA/DR solutions using Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, and Geo-Replication.
- Develop backup and restore strategies aligned with RTO/RPO requirements.
- Test and document disaster recovery procedures.
- Automation & DevOps Integration: Automate database deployments and maintenance tasks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, and ARM/Bicep templates.
- Integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines using tools like Azure DevOps.
- Maintain version control and change tracking for database objects.
- Server Infrastructure Management: Collaborate with Infrastructure teams to manage and optimize Windows Server and Linux Server environments hosting SQL Server instances.
- Ensure proper configurations, patching and performance tuning of OS-level components affecting database performance.
- Active Directory & Identity Integration: Design and implement secure authentication mechanisms using Active Directory and Azure AD.
- Manage service accounts, group policies and access controls for database services.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Work closely with application developers, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior DBAs and developers.
- Document architecture decisions, standards, and operational procedures.
What we’re looking for
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2016+).
- Minimum 3 years of experience with Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance.
- Technical Skills: Expert-level proficiency in T-SQL, query optimization, and database performance tuning.
- Strong understanding of Azure networking, identity, and security models.
- Experience with Windows Server and Linux Server administration in relation to SQL Server deployments.
- Hands on experience with Active Directory, Azure AD, and Identity federation.
- Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights for database observability.
- Preferred Qualifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or equivalent.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate.
- Experience with hybrid cloud environments and data integration tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory).
- Knowledge of other Azure data services like Cosmos DB, Synapse Analytics, or Databricks.
- Soft Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and lead cross-functional teams.
