About the role

 

We are looking for a VMware Infrastructure Engineer to support and manage enterprise virtualized environments. The role involves hands-on administration of VMware vSphere, foundational understanding of VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF) and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), along with strong expertise in storage, backup, and operational support. The candidate will play a key role in ensuring platform availability, performance, security, and compliance in a managed services environment.

As a VMware Infrastructure Engineer, you will get to:

  • VMware & Platform Operations 
    • Administer and support VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter) environments. 
    • Perform VM provisioning, decommissioning, resizing, and lifecycle operations. 
    • Support VVF components including compute, storage, and networking constructs. 
    • Provide L2/L2+ support for VMware platform incidents and service requests. 
    • Assist in VCF environments with basic exposure to SDDC components (SDDC Manager, NSX, vSAN). 
       
  • Monitoring, Incident & Problem Management 
    • Proactively monitor VMware infrastructure and respond to alerts. 
    • Troubleshoot performance, availability, and capacity issues across compute,storage, and network layers. 
    • Handle escalated incidents from L1 teams and work with L3/vendor support where required. 
    • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions. 
  • Storage Management 
    • Manage and troubleshoot storage across SAN/NAS platforms (NetApp, Dell EMC, HPE, or equivalent). 
    • Handle datastore provisioning, expansion, and performance tuning. 
    • Monitor latency, IOPS, and capacity utilization. 
    • Support multipathing and storage connectivity issues. 
  • Backup & DR Operations 
    • Administer and support backup solutions such as Veeam, Commvault, NetBackup, or equivalent. 
    • Perform backup job monitoring, failure remediation, and restore operations. 
    • Support VM-level and file-level restores. 
    • Assist with DR drills and validation of backup policies. 
  • Change, Patch & Lifecycle Management 
    • Perform ESXi and vCenter patching and upgrades as per change management processes. 
    • Execute planned maintenance activities with minimal downtime. 
    • Validate pre- and post-change health checks. 
  • Security, Compliance & Best Practices 
    • Ensure VMware environments adhere to security and compliance standards
    • Support hardening activities aligned with VMware and industry best practices
    • Assist in audit support and compliance reporting. 
  • Documentation & Knowledge Management 
    • Maintain operational runbooks, SOPs, and technical documentation. 
    • Create knowledge articles and assist in KT sessions for L1 teams. 
    • Contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives

What we’re looking for

  • Mandatory
    • Strong hands-on experience with VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter).
    • Good understanding of VMware VVF architecture and capabilities.
    • Foundational exposure to VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF).
    • Experience with enterprise storage (SAN/NAS).
    • Experience with backup and recovery tools (Veeam/Commvault/NetBackup).
    • Solid troubleshooting skills in production environments.
    • ITIL-aligned incident, problem, and change management experience.
  • Good to Have
    • Exposure to NSX, vSAN, or SDDC Manager.
    • Experience in managed services or MSP environments.
    • Basic scripting or automation exposure (PowerCLI).
    • Understanding of DR, HA, and business continuity concepts.
    • Exposure to Azure VMware Solution (AVS) or hybrid cloud.
  • Certifications (Preferred)
    • VMware VCP-DCV
    • ITIL Foundation
    • Storage or Backup certifications (NetApp, Dell EMC, Veeam – a plus)
  • Soft Skills
    • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
    • Ability to work in high-pressure, SLA-driven environments.
    • Team player with mentoring capability for L1 engineers.
    • Proactive and customer-focused mindset
