About the role
The Senior ITAM Practitioner/ SLS Consultant Sr. ensures and advises on the execution of ITAM strategy and enables organisational asset management capabilities.
The Senior ITAM Practitioner/ SLS Consultant Sr. is a subject matter expert and strategic advisor. They contribute to the definition and implementation of asset management strategy, lead significant cost optimisation initiatives within established strategic frameworks and provide authoritative advice to senior stakeholders. They are accountable for delivery excellence within the ITAM practice or large-scale client engagements. They also lead ITAM delivery and team, execute projects, manage risks, and ensure quality performance.
The Senior ITAM Practitioner/ SLS Consultant Sr. provides authoritative guidance in their field and works under broad direction. Accountable for delivering significant work outcomes, from analysis through execution to evaluation.
The Senior ITAM Practitioner at Insight works in consultancy capacity, providing expert ITAM advice to clients and internal stakeholders while designing asset management strategies, governance frameworks, and optimization programs. They lead complex engagements that align ITAM capabilities with business objectives, influence strategic technology decisions, and deliver measurable business value through Software Asset Management (SAM), Hardware Asset Management (HAM), Software as a Service (SaaS), and Financial Operations (FinOps) initiatives.

Success includes designing effective asset management frameworks, engaging stakeholders to identify and implement significant cost optimization opportunities, influencing strategic technology and vendor decisions, and establishing governance structures that ensure compliance and control while enabling business agility. It also includes providing comprehensive audit support throughout external vendor audit processes and managing associated risks. Additionally, it encompasses leading complex global client engagements from scoping through delivery while directing, coaching, and monitoring team performance to ensure quality outcomes.
Key Responsibilities

Manages and maintains service compliance of IT and service assets in line with business and regulatory requirements, identifies and assesses associated risks and communicates them, and ensures asset controllers, infrastructure teams, and the business coordinate to optimize value, maintain control, and uphold legal compliance.

Owns client requirements (solutions and analysis, issue resolution), manages consultancy scope and delivery to meet objectives, identifies and recommends options, facilitates stakeholder collaboration to address needs and implement solutions, and enhances client capabilities by ensuring proposed solutions are understood and effectively exploited.

Oversees contractual fulfilment, uses KPIs to monitor and challenge performance, develops strategies for underperformance and compliance failures, evaluates and advises on changes, negotiates variations and secures authorization, engages stakeholders and experts for review and benchmarking, and implements change management protocols to drive continual improvement.

Provides and oversees specialist ITAM advice that informs operational leadership and translates strategy into operations, consolidates expertise from internal and third-party sources to deliver coherent, sound guidance aligned to organizational objectives, and supports and promotes the development and sharing of specialist knowledge across the organization.

Leads cost management strategies, policies, and procedures; provides authoritative guidance on cost optimization; oversees complex cost models and reporting; presents insights to senior stakeholders to enable data-driven decisions; and promotes a culture of cost consciousness and continuous improvement.

Plans, organizes, and conducts audits across complex domains and the supply chain; confirms scope and objectives aligned to audit programmes and policies; determines investigation methods; presents findings on control effectiveness and efficiency; provides audit advice; and collaborates with related specialists to develop and integrate findings.

Defines, documents, and executes small projects or sub-projects; applies project management methods; prepares governance-aligned plans; identifies and manages risks; tracks schedule, costs, quality, and resources; engages stakeholders; and takes corrective action when tolerances are exceeded.

Provides operational direction, support, and guidance to colleagues; allocates routine tasks and project work aligned to team objectives and individual capabilities; monitors quality and performance to recommend learning or escalate concerns; coaches targeted skills and capabilities; and facilitates effective working relationships within the team.

Investigates complex business situations to identify ITAM-related opportunities and challenges; analyses organisational processes, systems, and capabilities to determine current state and improvement requirements; facilitate stakeholder workshops to gather requirements and define desired outcomes; develop business cases for ITAM investments and initiatives; gain stakeholder consensus on improvement priorities and solutions.

Provides expert ITAM consultancy by designing asset management strategies aligned to business objectives, defining mission, vision, goals, and success metrics; recommend solutions that optimize value and mitigate risk; develop strategic roadmaps for ITAM capability development; influence strategic technology and vendor decisions; guide clients through ITAM transformation initiatives.

Designs and implements enterprise-wide asset management frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures; establish governance structures that ensure compliance and control while enabling business agility; designs process improvements and operational workflows; defines metrics and KPIs to measure asset management effectiveness and business value.

Oversees complex license reconciliation projects for enterprise clients, validating analysis quality and compliance positions across multiple vendors and licensing models; identifies compliance risks and optimization opportunities; develop strategic remediation plans; advises senior stakeholders on compliance strategies and risk mitigation approaches.

Identifies and implements significant cost optimization opportunities across software licensing, SaaS subscriptions, cloud consumption, and hardware assets; design and execute cost management strategies including cost allocation, chargeback models, budget management, and financial reporting; demonstrate measurable financial impact and return of investment (ROI) to stakeholders.

Provides comprehensive support throughout external vendor audit processes, including audit preparation and readiness assessment, evidence gathering and position analysis, challenging auditor draft reports to reduce initial reported findings through detailed analysis and documentation, developing remediation strategies, and managing audit-related risks and timelines.

Designs contract governance frameworks and optimization strategies; leads complex contract reviews and analysis; evaluate contract terms, commercial models, and licensing structures; advises on enterprise agreements, cloud commitments, and optimization opportunities; ensures contract strategies align with business objectives and deliver optimal value.

Leads complex global ITAM engagements from scoping through delivery, including large-scale SAM implementations, enterprise license optimizations, SaaS rationalization programs, and FinOps transformations; ensure deliverables meet quality standards, timelines, and budgets while managing engagement risks and stakeholder expectations.

Engages senior client stakeholders including IT leadership, procurement, finance, and business unit leaders; build trusted advisor relationships; understands business priorities and challenges; aligns ITAM initiatives with organisational strategies; communicate complex concepts effectively to diverse audiences.

Contributes to ITAM practice development by refining methodologies, developing reusable assets and intellectual property, and sharing best practices across the organization; act as a senior SME in selected client-facing and industry contexts.

Stays current with evolving licensing models, vendor strategies, and market trends; evaluates emerging ITAM technologies and methodologies; identifies opportunities to enhance service offerings; contributes to continuous improvement of ITAM practice operations and capabilities.

Qualification, Skills and Experience
Education:
Bachelor’s / master’s degree in in IT, Business, Finance, or related field and can demonstrate equivalent work experience.
Qualification:
Knowledge of IT asset management strategy, governance, and optimization across hardware, software, SaaS, and cloud assets; proficiency with multiple ITAM/SAM tools and ability to evaluate tooling solutions; deep knowledge of licensing models, contract structures, and commercial terms for multiple tier 1 vendors (Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, SAP) and tier 2 vendors; understanding of ITAM frameworks and standards (ISO 19770, ITIL); strong knowledge of FinOps frameworks and cost optimization strategies; demonstrated business analysis and consultancy methodologies; excellent stakeholder engagement, presentation, and influencing skills.
Relevant Certifications:
ITAM tool certifications (e.g., Flexera, ServiceNow, USU); IAITAM certifications (CSAM or CITAM) or ITAMOrg certifications (ITAMF, SAMS, HAMS); ITIL Foundation; FinOps Practitioner; vendor-specific licensing or cloud certifications.
Technical skills:
Proficiency with multiple ITAM/SAM tools and ability to evaluate, compare, and recommend tooling solutions.
Advanced data analysis and business intelligence capabilities (Power BI, advanced Excel or similar) for creating executive insights and financial models.
Understanding of ITAM tool architecture, integrations, API connections, and data flows
Knowledge of FinOps and cloud cost management tools (AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, cloud optimization platforms)
Familiarity with SaaS management platforms (Zylo, Productiv, Torii, or similar)
Advanced presentation and data visualization skills for executive reporting
Understanding of ITSM platforms (ServiceNow) and CMDB concepts
Generative AI literacy and practical application, with capability in prompt optimisation, AI-enabled workflow/agent concepts, adoption analytics, and Responsible AI practices.
