Position Overview
Working successfully within a team, the Systems Engineer will participate in requirements analysis, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, trade studies, systems integration and test (verification) in the development and evaluation of networks and information systems.
The Systems Engineer will be responsible for management and administration of one of the following environments including deployment and operation: Windows/Linux/Telecom. Additional responsibilities include administration of 3rd party solutions within the Collaboration environment such as Symantec Enterprise Vault, alternative messaging strategies, Trend Anti-Virus, level 2 & 3 troubleshooting skills and capacity planning in a distributed environment.
Essential Functions
- Generate scheduled reports for analysis by management associated with project status or open tickets.
- Audit/review system rules on a routine basis to ensure consistency across the board, identify missing/incorrect items and correct.
- Communicate with clients via ticketing system to ensure open items are being addressed.
- Review and update onboarding documentation and project plans.
- Align system resource specs with contract expectations.
- Assist with project management, ensuring all activities are performed timely and accurately.
- Monitor and review performance, throughput, availability and exception incidents.
- Configure and troubleshoot within your system of expertise. For example, Windows, Linux, or Telecom.
- Learn your designated system (either Windows, Linux, or Telecom) products.
- Have knowledge of the system management and monitoring tools within one of the following: Windows/Linux/Telecom.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you’ll need to join Insight
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; and three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Well-rounded background of computer experience preferably including computer internals, troubleshooting, installation, operating systems, applications, and networking.
- Hands-on experience with multiple hardware platforms including Windows, Linux, or Telecom.
- Experience or understanding of several elements of Operating Systems, Programming Languages, and Applications.
- Experience in at least one of the following Operating systems: Windows/Linux/Telecom.
- Some experience with the following: Unix scripting, Windows Script Host/NT Shell, VBScript, AWK, SED, PERL, C, and C++
- Experience supporting Operating systems in environments using the following applications: Oracle, MySQL, MSQL, Samba, Apache, DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, NFS, cron, HP Openview, SAP, and X-Windows.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business/ professional journals, technical procedures, or regulations.
- Preferred certification in at least one of the following: TRU64, Red Hat Linux, HP-UX, HP Storageworks.
