Sales Engineer I

The Sales Engineer I - National is responsible for providing pre-sales technical support and guidance to the sales organization in support of Datacenter Technologies, including Networking, Servers and Storage.  This position provides basic level technical assistance to sales, including opportunity qualification, configuration creation, quoting and other technical renderings.  The Sales Engineer I - National is also responsible for coordinating internal/ external resources in order to gather information and develop solutions on behalf of the Account Executive

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Most hold baseline certifications for supported partners 
  • Hold a complete understanding of all partner tools as it relates to quote creation and/or pricing approval
  • Be able to confidently support sales on all basic technology requests without assistance
  • Engages Sales Engineer - National Level II, III or field SE resources when needed
  • Create accurate technical responses within the specified SLA
  • Provide pricing direction/ margin coaching to AE’s
  • Ability to explain the value of warranty as well as consistently attaches on all applicable hardware/software
  • Proposes Insight’s skuable services where appropriate
  • Provides direction and assistance to AE on distributor and/or manufacturer special pricing programs
  • Collaborates with Special Costing and Material Creation teams as appropriate
  • Knows when and how to engage, Partners and AE 
  • Maintains a superior level of customer service with both internal/ external clients
  • Builds Relationships with relevant Partner/Manufacturer resources.  Examples: Inside Channel Support Resources/Cisco Technical Field

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum of Associates degree in the field of Information Technology and 1-3 years on the job experience or outside experience in similar field; or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Basic level understanding in technologies
  • Obtain baseline certifications for all supported partners within first year of employment
  • Professionalism and solid phone skills are a must
  • Must be self-driven and able to work with minimal direction


Insight may require the Sales Engineer I - National to achieve and maintain certifications on behalf of the company for various manufacturers.  In those cases, the teammate will be reimbursed for the training and related travel in conjunction with Insight’s policies.  The teammate will be asked to sign training waivers in advance of the training to ensure Insight receives maximum benefit for the investment.
