Principal Field Architect


Position Overview 


The Principal Field Architect (PFA) is a strategic role that encompasses deep experience across the entire IT industry. The PFA understands the customer’s lines of business and the specific technical requirements of each. The PFA translates business needs into technical solutions and articulates the value of these solutions back to business decision makers. The PFA takes the primary technical role on targeted, strategic accounts as a partner to one or more Solutions Client Executives (SCEs). The PFA focuses on accounts and opportunities that span Insight’s portfolio. The PFA may leverage one or more Field Architects or Solutions Architects as well as Services subject mater experts to manage a technical sales campaign as necessary.

The PFA takes a consultative approach to selling focusing on understanding customer business requirements and translating those to appropriate technical solutions and services engagements. The PFA is expected to build and maintain relationships with senior IT and business leaders within Insight’s customer base, leveraging these relationships to expand the scope of Insight’s presence within these customer environments.

In addition, the PFA will play a very critical role as a thought leader assisting with the development and delivery of enablement deliverables responsible for supporting strategic initiatives. The PFA will be responsible for leading and influencing the adoption of collaboration tools amongst the architecture and extended Insight technical community.



What you’ll do at Insight 

The ideal candidate would be open to moderate travel in order to provide a national impact with our clients. 

Serve as a technical subject matter expert in strategic growth areas, instilling knowledge and best practices into our sales, delivery, marketing and alliances teams. 

Act as a thought leader in the greater community and connect with like-minded professionals across our client and partner networks to foster business development opportunities. 

Produce written, visual and demonstration quality collateral and materials supporting the National Practice’s targeted offerings and help to drive the offerings both internally and externally. 

Attend, organize and present at technology and industry events and community programs. 

Lead architectural design sessions and pre-sales scoping activities for our clients, along with our sales and delivery teams. 

Function in a billable client facing capacity, providing architecture and delivery oversight for our project delivery teams. 

Owns overall technical relationship with assigned accounts

Owns development of proposals that address complex opportunities with input from Data Center and Solutions Architects.

Owns the technical aspect and is a participant in increasing share of wallet in target and strategic accounts.

Owns the development of high-level designs for solutions presented with input from Data Center and Solutions Architects(s).

Drives development of strategic corporate initiatives

Provide leadership within Insight technical community

Participate in Insight internal training initiatives

Engages in strategic vendor relationships

Participates in product evaluations and recommendations

Identifies customer business and technical requirements for all opportunities.

Participates in all internal sales meetings as technical representative.

Participates in Quarterly Business Reviews within region

Participates in validating the strategy of responding to RFPs. For valid RFP/RFI opportunities, coordinate the response to these cycles.

Act as a public representative of Insight when called upon

Act as a member of the Insight engineering leadership council

Reports to management on a weekly basis an accounting of time engaged in pre-sales activities, billable activities, and professional development and company initiatives.

Actively tracks opportunities being worked on, providing regional leadership a weekly report on the revenue, gross profit and services associated with the efforts of the Principal Field Architect.


What you’ll need to join Insight 

Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or equivalent 

Minimum 10 years of industry experience 

Extensive experience and knowledge of agile development, SDLC and DevOps 

Breadth of knowledge across all Microsoft Azure products & solutions, with depth of knowledge in some or all of the following: 

Data & Analytics products & solutions (e.g. Azure SQL, CosmosDB, DataLake, SQL Data Warehouse, Azure Analysis Services, Data Factory, HDInsight, etc) 

AI & Cognitive Services products & solutions (e.g. AML, Bot Service, LUIS, etc.) 

Internet of Things (e.g. IoT Hub, IoT Edge, Stream Analytics, etc.) 

Expertise with other IoT, Data and Analytics products and solutions outside of the Microsoft Azure platform is also desirable 


The base salary range for this position is typically $160,000 to $200,000 with additional bonus and benefits available. However, compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case, including experience and location, and we will also consider candidates outside of this range as necessary.
