Solutions Engineer – Hybrid IT Delivery & Implementation

 

ROLE DESCRIPTION

 

 

The Solutions Engineer (SE) delivers client initiatives for Hybrid IT solutions (on-premises, cloud, and combinations) in collaboration with the Insight Canada Hybrid IT Pre-Sales team. This includes billable consulting services, scoping deliverable projects, and leading the deployment and adoption of technology solutions.

 

The SE is a technical, client-facing role that is accountable for scoping effort and deployment. A technical leader who can work through problems of varying complexity while delivering outstanding customer service; all the while keeping abreast of the latest solutions and offerings.

 

Working in conjunction with the Pre-Sales Solutions Architects and Practice Leads, the SE owns the delivery aspect of a client engagement, this includes scoping effort, technical assessments, solution deployments, proof of concept/value, providing workshops, and documentation. The successful candidate is a natural leader who will have experience in client-facing roles, delivering solutions, and leading discussions with technical decision makers.

 

The SE works closely with Insight pre-sales as well as vendor partners to stay abreast of new and current offerings. The ideal candidate demonstrates a high degree of passion for self-improvement, while constantly looking for ways to elevate themselves and their peers to ever-rising standards.

Essential Functions of the Job:

 

  • Provide expertise on data center, infrastructure, security, cloud connectivity, and virtualization solutions to our clients.
  • Drive the deployment, upgrade, and migration of client workloads into hybrid or public cloud infrastructure and provide appropriate recommendations to overcome infrastructure-specific roadblocks.
  • Establish good relations with customers and act in a trusted advisor capacity.
  • Provide regular and timely project forecasts and updates.
  • Collaborate closely with Insight’s Professional Services Pre-Sales division to ensure that capabilities are aligned.
  • Work with Pre-Sales to accurately scope the deployment of proposed solutions, provide technical deep dives of solutions to clients, technical verification of solution proposals, statements of works, assessment documents, and other deliverable documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Hybrid IT teams and participate in the development of future solution strategies and service/solution offerings.
  • Keep up to date with market trends and competitive insights by participating in the broader IT industry events, blogs, whitepapers, and articles as well as attending vendor-related training, webinars, and conferences as required.
  • Deliver presentations at internal and external marketing and industry events.
  • Provide senior technical direction and escalation within projects.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external relationships with multiple vendors and partners.
  • Oversee 100% billable work.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • 5+ years of success in consultative/complex technical sales and deployment projects, while managing various stakeholder relationships and building consensus.
  • 5+ years of architecture, design, implementation, and/or support of data center solutions.
  • Deep understanding of server platforms (HPE, Dell, Lenovo).
  • Deep understanding of storage technologies, and strong hands-on experience in at least one of the following storage vendors (HPE, Dell, Lenovo, NetApp, Pure).
  • Deep technical experience in more than one of the following VMware solutions vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, NSX, SRM, HCX, vRealize.
  • Strong hands-on experience with at least one major hyper-converged (HCI) solution: VMware vSAN, Dell VxRail, HPE Simplivity, Cisco HyperFlex, Nutanix, and/or Microsoft Azure Stack HCI.
  • Experience with Microsoft Hyper-V / failover clustering.
  • Understanding of backup methodologies, with experience in at least one backup product: preferably Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik, or Cohesity.
  • Deployment / configuration experience in one of the major hyper-scalers: Microsoft Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • Experience with VMware Cloud (VMC on AWS, Azure VMware Solutions, or Google Cloud VMware Engine).

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

 

  • Strong understanding of networking concepts and how they relate to the datacenter.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to leverage internal and/or external resources.
  • Deep understanding of a broad array of virtualization and infrastructure technologies, business drivers, and emerging trends.
  • Strong expertise and acumen around virtualization and enterprise data center architectures.
  • Ability to work closely with customers and pre-sales team help grow our footprint within large or highly strategic accounts.
  • Ability to drive collaborative decision making, eliminate roadblocks and execute on plans and initiatives.
  • Contagious enthusiasm for and a desire to continuously learn.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication.
  • Presentation skills and a high degree of comfort with both large and small audiences.
  • Oversight experience on major digital transformation projects and successful transitions to implementation support and operations teams.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English.
  • Bilingual in English and French - required for Quebec candidates only.
