Network Engineer – Route/Switch/MPLS Documentation - Contract

This role is focused on producing and updating Network Documentation for a large core network transformation project.  You will be responsible for updating Visio network drawings, circuit and port map spreadsheets, physical and logical diagrams etc. You will work closely with Network Architects and Consultants, with an opportunity to learn more about large scale network deployments.   


This is a 12 month Contract role supporting a specific Insight project with a large customer. There is potential to convert to an FTE for the right candidates.


What you’ll do in this project:

  • Work will be performed remotely from your home office; there may be some requirements to be onsite at the customer location on a one-off basis.
  • Support Architects, Design/Deployment engineers working on migration of a large scale network running on a core of Cisco 7600s’ to a new Cisco ASR MPLS backbone
  • Develop / Update high level and low level design drawings (Visio) for specific circuit and site migrations. This will include relevant upstream/downstream devices.  You may also be asked to create as-built documentation as well as rack elevations
  • Create documentation required for change management process as directed by project Architects
  • Participate in Design, Change control and implementation planning meetings
  • Work with various Architects, Design and Deployment engineers to insure accuracy of network drawings and documentation.
  • Opportunity to learn more about network design and implementation on large scale projects
  • <5% travel for this project


What you’ll do at Insight:


  • Actively participate in the assessment, planning, designing, and implementing of core Network solution projects including: route/switch, security (ASA, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Splunk, FTD, Stealth watch etc) , Wireless/RF (Cisco, Aruba, Meraki), Micro segmentation (ISE/Clearpass), SD-WAN (Viptela, Silverpeak, Velo Cloud, Meraki) Data Center SDA (ACI/NSX), Orchestration and Automation (Ansible, Python, Cisco DNAC)
  • Design, deploy, document and support medium to large-scale network implementations.
  • Work with various client and projects across multiple industries and market segments, including public and private entities.
  • Work with current and emerging technologies: Insight is always working with the cutting-edge solutions from many vendors. 
  • Maintain, upgrade, and provide solutions to complex hardware/software problems.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients and internal teams; develop yourself as a thought leader with the clients you engage with.



What you’ll need to join Insight:

  • 1-2+ years implementing and troubleshooting core networking technologies.
  • Strong Microsoft Visio skills with Network drawings
  • Strong Excel Spreadsheet skills
  • Growth in technical skills through technical education (AAS/BS), certifications (CCNA/CCDA/JNCIA) or other similar achievements is desired.
  • Experience in Route/switch networking technologies, with understanding of hierarchical network design, transport technologies (SONET, PON, TDM), familiarity with routing protocols (MP-BGP, OSPF, EIGRP)
  • Understanding of at least one of the following is desirable: security (ASA, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Splunk, FTD, Stealth watch etc) , Wireless/RF (Cisco, Aruba, Meraki), Micro segmentation (ISE/Clearpass), SD-WAN (Viptela, Silverpeak, Velo Cloud, Meraki) Data Center SDA (ACI/NSX), Orchestration and Automation (Ansible, Python, Cisco DNAC)
  • Ability to work remotely from a home office; but also be willing to be in the office or on a client location as required.
  • Experience working with multiple team members on large-scale projects including coordinated delivery and documentation with internal, client, and oversight personnel.
