Server Engineer

Position Overview

The Server Engineer to be responsible for Incident management for the day-to-day administration of our clients server infrastructure and remediation of issues as they are reported by our clients or Insight’s monitoring solution. The Server Engineer will utilize Insight’s Support Services tools sets to deliver this service effectively. Other functions of the role would include, but are not limited to mentoring first level technicians, leading internal and external projects, develop service deliverable initiatives, and process improvement opportunities. This role is highly collaborative with all engineers and technicians in Support Services and interaction with Insight clients of this service. Expectation to work with data center, data protection, virtualization, networking, security, and storage technologies as well.

 

Responsibilities and Duties at Insight:

 

  • The Server Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance and general operations, troubleshooting of client server infrastructure.
  • Performs primarily break/fix troubleshooting, some server/software updates and feature enhancements to Windows, Linux and UNIX servers, VMware, Active Directory, General IT infrastructure. 
  • Responds and solves customer issues utilizing technology tools, procedures, and training through awareness of service offerings and Service Level Agreements (SLAs). 
  • Maintains current knowledge of core service offerings and SLAs. Understands all service offerings to better support our customers. 
  • Problem Management to monitor trends and problems to spot patterns and recommend new standards or process changes.
  • Creates and maintains technical and process documentation. Propose Knowledge changes and update existing process documents.
  • Collaborate with Internal resources, customer, third party vendor to solve complicated issues.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and technical expertise to Services technicians.
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer engineering and other computer related studies, ECE or IT related field, from two or four-year College or University.
  • At least 8 years of experience in Systems Administration/Engineering, NOC operations, Remote trouble shooting, customer management and other related IT services experience.
  • Ability to thrive in an environment characterized by rapidly changing requirements and an ongoing focus on meeting operational objectives and SLAs.
  • Strong written and verbal English communications skills.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong commitment to company values and operating principles.

 

Technical Requirements:

  • Windows Server OS 2016+ Install/Configure/Troubleshoot
  • Active Directory Install/Configure/Troubleshoot
  • VMware 6.0+ Install/Configure/Troubleshoot
  • Cisco UCS Configure/Troubleshoot
  • Dell / HP Server Hardware Configure/Troubleshoot
  • Cloud Technologies (Azure/AWS)
  • Linux Install/Configure/Troubleshoot
  • TCP/IP / DNS / DHCP / NTP

 

Preferred

  • Industry recognized certifications. ITIL, Microsoft, VMware, etc.
  • Experience supporting or working in an Enterprise and/or Global Managed Services environment.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise level monitoring systems.
  • Background in General System Administration.
  • Powershell, scripting
  • Hyperconverged technologies such as Nutanix and Hyperflex.
  • SAN Storage
