Server Patching Technician

Position Overview

The Patch Technician will be responsible for maintaining the system security and integrity through patch management. You will be responsible for maintaining the patch compliance of clients’ servers to ensure systems are protected against published vulnerabilities, mitigating operating system risks and enabling maximum systems’ availability for clients’ business operations. This includes investigating and troubleshooting patch failures, collaborating with peer support teams to resolve patch issues and escalating issues to management. As part of the role, you will work directly with the client to communicate progress on tasks and provide recommendations to their infrastructure.

What you’ll do at Insight

  • Manage Windows OS updates, software updates, and application patching and distribution, remediation of identified IT system security related issues, threat mitigation and reporting, trend analysis of captured data.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and problem resolution, using a variety of tools including event logs, log files, network packet traces, and error messages, to include but not limited to, issues with Microsoft Windows OS, patch and update distribution, and Patch Mgt agent.
  • Patch Mgt Tool Administration of clients’ patching configurations; clients’ patching schedules; data collection; and reporting for servers and PCs.
  • Validate patch deployments for compliance against respective patching policies
  • Document issue details and resolution following standard process in designated ticketing system according to standard policy.
  • Communicate and Collaborate with MS Operations teams
  • Maintain and report on inventory of all in-scope hardware and software as required or requested.
  • Coordinate patch remediation efforts with client point of contact.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Reports directly to Services Manager

What you’ll need to join Insight

General Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in in Computer Science/Engineering, Information Systems, or related field, from four-year College or University or equivalent experience
  • At least 4 years of experience in Systems Administration and Patching technology, other related IT support experience. 
  • Strong Troubleshooting and case management experience
  • Able to thrive in an environment characterized by rapidly changing requirements and an ongoing focus on meeting operational objectives
  • Able to successfully manage multiple priorities
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Strong commitment to company values and operating principles

Technical Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of Windows Server OS system settings, management settings and its navigation.
  • Understanding of Network Infrastructure Concepts (OSI Layers, DNS, Basic Network Config)
  • Strong understanding of patch management solutions, concepts, and strategies
  • Strong Fluency of Windows applications and Microsoft Office programs such as MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Good understanding of Active Directory Management
  • Good understanding of virtualization technologies

Preferred

  • Industry recognized certifications. ITIL, CCNA, Microsoft technology certificates, others.
  • Experience supporting or working in an Enterprise and/or Global Managed Services environment.
  • Scripting experience using Powershell, VBS, etc.
