Scrum Master / Agilist

Job Description

This individual engages with clients to help delivery teams optimize for value delivery and effectiveness. Our Agilists are motivated by a continuous improvement mindset to utilize both their conceptual knowledge and real- world experiences to provide effective facilitation, leadership and coaching to support our clients with successful delivery of high quality and valuable solutions.

This role requires experience and understanding of various Agile frameworks, tools, and techniques; as well as willingness to adapt approaches based on client needs. The ideal candidate can break through complexity and ambiguity while creating a safe environment for continuous improvement. Our Agilists need to be able to navigate an organization’s environment to understand the complexities and to meet our clients where they are on their agile journey.

 

Role & Responsibilities

Servant Leader & Change Agent

  • Lead by example. Display behaviors that demonstrate the key mindset shifts associated with increasing organizational and team level agility
  • Influence change by modeling shared values, vision, and leveraging collaborative partnerships
  • Guide the team and organization toward more effective value delivery
  • Create a safe environment where problems can be discussed openly and solved collaboratively
  • Willing to tackle challenging problems
  • Aid clients in identifying, removing and/or reducing impediments and dependencies
  • Create an environment that supports and encourages experimentation
  • Champion the team by learning through experimentation and by recognizing and celebrating successes as they occur

Facilitator

  • Facilitate discussions, events, and activities as necessary and ensure the team is realizing maximum value from the discussion to ensure a shared understanding amongst everyone involved.
  • Facilitate and monitor Outcome definition and measurement. Ensure alignment to those outcomes

Coach

  • Coach business and IT professionals in effective Product Backlog management to maximize the value and shared understanding of what is to be delivered, why it needs to be delivered, and what success looks like
  • Coach software development teams in self-organization, continuous improvement, cross-functionality, risk identification, dependency management, conflict resolution, and software craftsmanship
  • Coach others in the organization regarding Agile practices, benefits and impacts those actions have on the team and its self-organization (i.e., managers, stakeholders, Product Managers, Program Managers, etc.)
  • Help the Organization and Teams to understand the use of inspecting and adapting to reduce risk in complex situations

Teach & Mentor

  • Teach the value of continuous improvement (interactions, practices, and process) and guide the team and organization through inspect and adapt opportunities
  • Educate the team and organization on the value and proper use of metrics, feedback loops, and information radiators
  • Help the client to define the problem and identify appropriate experiments to address the identified issue
  • Educate the team to leverage the value of transparency
  • Create opportunities to educate others about Agile Concepts during normal conversation

 

Leader

  • Identify opportunities for improvement
  • Serve as Trusted Expert regarding best implementation to promote agility at your client.
  • Have the courage to help those outside the team identify and understand which interactions are helpful and which are not

Culture Builder

  • Actively participate in Insight internal communities (Agile Development Program, Agile Advisory Services) to share knowledge and learn from peers
  • Continue to educate yourself and others by staying up to date on the current offering and tools available both internally and externally
  • Passion for continuous professional development

Consultant

  • Identify potential growth opportunities for Insight to meet additional client needs using our expertise and experience across all of Insight's capabilities
  • Earn client loyalty by building trust to help foster a partner relationship instead of a transactional one.

Experience

  • Scrum and/or Agile Certification(s)
  • Solid understanding of the Scrum Framework and principles of Agility
  • Served as an Agile Lead, Scrum Master, or Kanban Coach for a software development team
  • Deep understanding of software lifecycle development disciplines - Project Management, Requirements Management, Analysis & Design, Quality Assurance & Testing, Implementation, Deployment, Configuration & Change Management
  • Experience with a variety of facilitation techniques
  • Understanding of technical practices associated with Software Development (DevOps, CI/CD, test automation)
  • Knows the basics of product management/product thinking
  • Can correctly apply empiricism with a team
