Senior Systems Technician

The Systems team provide internal IT services across Insight globally. They cover the plan, build, and run for the full suite of End-user Computing, Infrastructure, Networking, supporting the Agile development environment including the development and maintenance of the toolchain supporting the continuous delivery pipeline. They support the integration of assets and assist with deployment and release on demand. They are responsible for building and utilizing the development environment infrastructure and evaluating system increments including the development and maintenance of continuous integration, build environments, testing platforms and testing automation frameworks, and integration code. They deliver the skills and tools needed to perform end-to-end system testing, demonstrate solutions to stakeholders and assist with non-functional requirements system testing.  

The End-user Computing team are responsible for the operations of secure and highly available end-user computing services. They install, maintain, upgrade, and continuously improve Insight’s operating environment. They also maintain the ongoing reliability, performance, and support of the Systems infrastructure. This includes monitoring the operating environments, responding to incidents and problems, and planning for growth.  

 

The Sr. Systems Technician supports complex End-user Computing projects and provides advanced technical support across hardware, software, and systems. The role helps deploy new technologies, install and maintain PC operating systems and hardware, troubleshoot user issues, and support secure, reliable end-user services. The role maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and upgrades computer systems, hardware, and peripherals. It also manages user accounts, access, security settings, and system images using WDS or similar technologies, applying strong technical knowledge to support effective service delivery and continuous improvement. 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead the operation, programming and configuration of electronics, hardware and software including investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving complex end-user problems, acting as an escalation point for critical issues.   

• Own and lead the maintenance, monitoring and support the infrastructure environment and/or facilities, ensuring stability, scalability, and performance.  

• Act as a key technical advisor to stakeholders, influencing decisions on system design, implementation and operations improvements.   

• Lead and support multiple systems or applications of small to medium complex (complexity defined by size, technology used, and system feeds and interfaces) with multiple concurrent users, ensuring control, integrity, and accessibility. 

• Lead cross-functional coordination to ensure network/telecom system upgrades and service pack deployments are implemented with minimal impact to production operation. 

• Define, review and continuously improve monitoring procedures are adhered to according to the quality standard procedures and requirements. 

• Own and oversee production, outputs, and services to ensure SLA’s, and other quality metrics, are consistently achieved and improved. 

• Ensure and enhance process frameworks, ensuring compliance with core practices such as Infosec, Incident and Change Management. 

• Lead complex problem resolution, coordinating across functional areas and providing subject matter expertise for diagnosing and resolving critical issues. 

• Define, recommend and implement software or hardware changes to address root causes and drive continuous improvement. 

• Own and maintain process and policy documentation and lead the development of documentation for new and complex solutions to date, documented and maintained, assisting in developing documentation for new solutions. 

• Lead technical delivery of projects, coordinating across teams, managing priorities, and ensuring successful implementation.  

• Drive the recommendation and implementation of changes to improve systems availability, reliability, and performance.
