Sr. Manager IT - Automation and Innovation

The Sr. Manager, IT is responsible for executing the strategic direction of the Automation/Innovation team. This role is accountable for ensuring deliverables are in a rolling 12–18-month roadmap, planned for the backlog, and delivered according to published team standards. The Sr. Manager, IT is responsible for introducing and maintaining highly repeatable and reliable processes, leveraging the agile methodology, supporting standards, and maintaining and leading high-performing, appropriately skilled teams. A critical part of the role is partnering with business stakeholders to facilitate and drive opportunities to innovate and automate business processes. This individual is a mentor to the team and peer managers within the department and is focused on being a change advocate within the greater organization.

 

This position requires a strong command of various technical areas, including application development, Robotics Process Automation (RPA), Innovation, and the software development lifecycle to manage a portfolio of process automation solutions and be responsible for the delivery of project outcomes. This position makes decisions that can affect the overall outcome of the business and the execution of its long-term vision and strategy. This function will liaise with all internal departments such as Operations, Sales, Product Management, Finance, Business Transformation, PMO, Internal IT, and Maintenance teams to drive insights into trends, metrics, and opportunities for future automation ideas.

 

What you’ll do at Insight

  • Drive the vision and strategy for the Automation Program
  • Responsible for leading the development and implementation of high-level automation concepts, strategies, and specification driving continual process improvements through innovation and automation
  • Partner with internal customers; working directly with business stakeholders, functional subject matter experts and operational leads) to assess needs
  • Responsible for delivering quality services and improvement projects in a timely manner, but also help foster an inclusive and innovative culture
  • Planning, establishing, and executing objectives that align with the strategic business objectives around Automation/Innovation
  • Identifying, measuring, reporting, and driving opportunities for continuous improvement across the entire software development life cycle
  • Fostering continuous improvement via identifying opportunities to collaborate across teams
  • Responsible for supervision and coordination of all technical staff within their area of responsibility
  • Regularly interacting with senior management or executive levels on the growth of the team. Requires the ability to gain buy in from others while potentially managing by influence
  • Participates in cross functional design and development efforts to ensure optimal end to end solutions
  • Fosters the technical “community” concept, defining disciplines and collaborative standards
  • Provides mentoring and career planning and promotes employee satisfaction
  • Establishes and supports published business Service Level Agreements
  • Provides guidance to technical team and clarifies project scope and objectives
  • Participates as needed in contract reviews and negotiations to secure IT services
  • Directs revision of existing programs and/or infrastructure components to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements
  • Negotiating and influencing skillfully with cross-functional groups such as Development, Product Management, Finance, and IT to resolve key issues
  • Prepares proposals, presentations, and reports as needed for senior management
  • Prepares, monitors, controls and reports expenditures related to the team and the infrastructure of the tools
  • Selecting, building, and developing the team by recruiting, training, defining staff development areas and providing ongoing feedback, coaching, and training
  • Monitors problem, change and incident queues, implementing compliance with capability, root cause analysis and change quality targets

 

What you’ll need to join Insight

  • BA/BS degree is required; a master’s degree is a plus
  • Minimum of 7+ years of business experience depending on the area (i.e., combination of working in an enterprise enablement leadership role, automation/RPA, application development, project management, business process operations, engineering operations, business or product strategy, technical consulting, data analysis)
  • Ability to work in a diverse, global, fast-paced environment and effectively collaborate across cross-functional teams
  • Supply chain/Finance/Planning experience a plus
  • Experience with Agile project management, SCRUM, SDLC/Waterfall
  • Established success in leading and coaching high-performing teams
  • Strong understanding of industry-standard technical practices and emerging technologies
  • Ability to multi-task and simultaneously manage competing priorities coming from a diverse group of senior executives
  • A track record of meeting complex stakeholder needs under tight timelines and resource constraints
  • Ability to relentlessly prioritize based on business impact
  • Ability to work independently to implement an actionable strategy and roadmap to drive automation/innovation opportunities based on data analysis and evidence to bring positive change to the global organization
  • Prior experience in automation technology would be a plus
  • Strong communication skills are required to align stakeholders on priorities, timing, and output
  • Ability to present complex technical concepts to senior executives in an understandable way
  • Iterative mentality - start with the 80% solution and improve over time
